NLA Australian Newspapers - article display: "JACARANDAS.

A dusty road through a parched land

winding,

In the heat and glare of November's sun,
A low-built house In the hot light lazing,

A gardenless house, with blind eyes gazing.
But Jacarandas in front are raising

Lavender wealth of their laden boughs.
And every moment, softly as sighing,

Slowly a blossom drops to the ground,
Weaving a regal carpet round,

The fair, spent blooms on the brown earth

lying

(Loveliness, beautiful even In dying),

Seem like a mirror held to the boughs.

A burning road in the fierce sun glaring.
And the iron roofs of the nearby town.
Dust in the air, and a hot wind blowing,
But Jacarandas in front are growing.

Lavender bells 'gainst the blue sky showing,
Lavender petals drifting down!
